A photographic technician does many jobs, some by hand and some using machinery. Some work requires great skill, while other work is of a routine nature. Technicians’ work includes: mixing chemicals; operating automatically-controlled processors ; printing - usually by machine, but sometimes by hand; re-touching of prints and negatives; finishing - mounting or laminating photographs; duplicating; copying photographs when negatives are not available; and digital imaging, which involves converting the photographs to graphics that can be manipulated on a computer, and subsequent reconversion of the finished graphic back into a photographic print. They work in a photographic laboratory.
