This work involves the covering of new or the re-covering of old furniture. Upholsterers working in a factory will normally work as a team and only carry out one part of the process. The traditional method of upholstery involves the use of webbing, springs, hessian, curled hair and wadding, felt, canvas and fabric for the covering. Modern manufacturers more often use latex and plastic, and some of the work is automated. Some upholsterers work in the production of prototype models.
