The various modes of interpreting are: simultaneous, consecutive, business, public service, court, orliaison interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting entails speaking the interpreted language as it is being spoken: consecutive interpreting is done a few sentences at a time, public service interpreting enables the officials of local authorities such as police, customs etc to converse with people who do not speak the local language: court interpreting is used in court proceedings when the witnesses, defendants or prosecutors do not speak the native court language: liaison interpreting is used when two people such as politicians from different countries wish to converse together.
