Medical receptionists are responsible for making sure that patients and visitors to a GP, health centre or hospital are directed to the right place at the right time. They may also have to answer telephone calls and arrange appointments or to take messages, conduct patients from the waiting room to their appointments and also to make sure that the waiting room and reception area are always kept tidy. The typical working week is 37 to 40 hours and usually involves sitting at a desk for long periods.
