No minimum entry requirements: some GCSEs, including English and mathematics will usually be required, however. It will often be necessary to have certificates in typing and computer use. National Traineeships are also available, and details may be obtained from the local careers office or Jobcentre.
Most workers in this field are trained on the job. NVQs/SVQs can be worked for from level 1 to 2, and as there is no set time limit for obtaining these, the different modules can be taken as and when necessary. People wishing to advance to higher levels can progress to levels 3 and 4 in the NVQs/SVQs or take higher national diplomas or certificates.
