Clothing Sewing Machinist

Clothing Sewing Machinist
Description / Description
This work can range from being extremely repetitive, such as when the machinist is responsible for producing only one part of a garment, to the opposite – for instance when they produce the entire garment by themselves (so-called multi-skilled machinists). They also can be employed to produce other items, such as furnishing covers, car and boat covers, etc.
The work involves the use of a variety of machines, each designed for a special part of the job: overlockers, lockstitch, cover seam or a more complicated computerised one.
The work can be part-time, full-time or involve working shifts. Most work is done in a factory, working under supervision. In more specialised and smaller environments, they may work unsupervised: these are usually for more versatile and skilled workers.
Salaries are in the range £10,000 to £13,000.
