With the advent of high-rise office buildings and blocks of flats, the window cleaner's job has become much more complicated and often requires the use of suitable access equipment. However, it is still possible to operate a one-man business having a permanent list of domestic and commercial clients who are serviced on a weekly (or some other time period) basis. For the simplest tasks it is necessary only to have a bucket, water, cleaning fluid, rags and a ladder. Because they are used to undertaking work at considerable heights, window cleaners also sometimes asked to clean the facade of a building, or to clear out gutters, and similar activities.
