Electronics assemblers are involved in the construction of electrical components. These components are for a wide range of equipment such as computers, televisions, washing machines and other home appliances and also scientific, technical and medical equipment. They may work on an assembly line where they attach a component to a partially assembled piece of equipment before passing it to the next operative. This means that all people working on an assembly line must work at the same speed. Some assemblers work on their own at a bench where they assemble the various parts of a piece of equipment. The normal working week is 37 to 40 hours, and sometimes the work is carried out in shifts. The working conditions are usually very clean to protect the equipment being worked upon, but assemblers must often sit or stand for long periods.
