Description / Description
These are the three terms relating to the person who is in charge of the practical procedure involved in presenting, respectively, a play or similar theatrical piece, a television programme or a film. The three activities are similar in nature, but they all have their own special characteristics. In a theatre the Stage Manager's duties include arranging rehearsals, scenery, auditions, and the subsequent smooth running of the performances. In a travelling company he will also be responsible for booking the necessary accommodations. The Floor Manager in a television studio does the same basic jobs as the Stage Manager in a theatre, and with the added responsibility of giving instructions to the sound and camera crew and studio audience (if there is one). On a film set there are usually several Assistant Directors whose responsibilities include preparing a shooting schedule, and that all the necessary equipment and scenery is available when required. The second, third and fourth (if necessary) Assistant Directors generally take care of the artists needs such as transport, refreshment etc. When the film is being shot, the First Assistant Director is the Director's right hand man.
