This work is divided into several different areas. The animals arrive first at an abattoir where they are humanely slaughtered. They are then skinned and usually separated into sides or quarters after the offal and other material has been trimmed off. These are then sold to meat wholesalers, who distribute it to butchers, meat processors, caterers, etc. Meat processors produce meat in the form of pies, sausages, oven-ready meals, ham, bacon, etc. Catering butchers provide meat for such clients as hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.
