Meter Reader

Description / Description
Meter readers check the use of electricity, gas or water in customers’ homes as well as in workplaces and public places. They also deal with enquiries and requests for advice from customers: when they are unable themselves to provide the answer, they inform the customer from whom or where to obtain the necessary assistance.
Meter readers work for electricity, gas or water companies and others work for meter reading companies contracted by the supply companies. Many meter readers work from home, but some work from an office base.
A meter reader usually organises his own working routine to meet the target set by the employer of how many meters must be read in a certain time. Gas, electricity and water meters are usually within homes or workplaces, but some are on outside walls or in other communal areas.
Meter readers must carry identification to show in order to gain access to private or working premises.
