Fabricators are involved in the manufacture, assembly and installation of structural frames for buildings. The work may involve the building of a new construction or an extension on to an existing building. The work involves using various materials such as wood, fibreglass, aluminium, plastics and stone. This work is carried out partly off-site and partly on-site. Fabricators work in teams and the work involves using hand and power tools and other larger machinery in order to assemble the sections. The normal working week is approximately 40 hours, but shift work and overtime may be necessary. The work may be in or out of doors and is carried on in all weathers. The carrying of equipment such as ladders and climbing to work at varying heights are necessary.
