Operational Researcher

Operational Researcher
Description / Description
In extensive discussions, operational researchers talk with the client who seeks a (computer) solution for a problem. They discuss his wishes and concepts and analyse information material bearing on the work procedures. In co-operation with a team of specialists they search for a practical solution. They judge which wishes can be realised, make suggestions and point out the special difficulties. Finally they draw up a concept for soft- and hardware. Based on their detailed information - a solution divided in well- structured steps - the specialists carry out the order and programmers developed the programs necessary. The researchers test the system and install it for the customer. To work successfully, operational researchers must be analytical as well as creative, and - as their orders vary tremendously - very versatile: e.g. to find out how to increase the profit of a service station, stopping staff fluctuation at a department store, finding the best place for a new housing development etc. Good communication skills are indispensable as two-thirds of the work is taken up by discussion.
