Description / Description
Quarrying involves the use of large and powerful excavating, transporting, crushing and processing equipment. Drilling machines and explosives are also used to mine the rock. Many thousand tonnes of broken rocks may result from one blast that is then crushed and separated into uniform sizes by a screening process.
A quarry worker may do many different kinds of work such as: excavating machine operator; plant and process operators who work on fixed plant for crushing, screening and washing; maintenance work; shotfirers and drillers working with explosives; drivers; and laboratory technician. There are also many administrative and managerial staff and environmentalists, geologists and designers who plan the quarrying operation from start to final land restoration.
