A Forest Officer is responsible for looking after the forest, the people who work in it and also the general public who use it. Usually, forests are run as a commercial activity as well as being natural resources. Forest officers must arrange for the felling and marketing of trees and the planting of new trees in their place. They must also arrange the work schedule and training of their staff, as well as taking care of the overall budget. They are also involved with the arrangement of picnic areas and paths that cause the least disturbance to, and assist the conservation of, the wildlife within the forest. Most Forest Officers work for Forest Enterprise (The Forestry Commission): others work for commercial companies or various charities such as the National Trust.
