Foundry work involves making castings in moulds that are then knocked out and cleaned and subjected to a finishing process. The work is divided up into many specialised stages. A few of these are such as sand mixers to provide the correct sand mix to the mould makers, furnacemen, coremakers, ceramic moulders, casters, grinders and fettlers, shot-blasters, etc. Work in a foundry is always hot and quite dusty, although not as dirty and dusty as in former years. The work is still quite physically demanding, however.
