Sound technicians and operators work in film, TV, theatre, radio and recording studios. As may be expected, the work is very varied in the different areas. Film and TV will involve much location work, whereas theatre, radio and audio recording is done in the house or studio. The work involves choosing and positioning the most suitable microphones; controlling the sound quality; cutting, editing and mixing the recorded soundtracks; re-recording when necessary; and many other tasks made necessary by the highly diverse situations in which the work is carried out.
