A blacksmith is mainly concerned with working in an agricultural setting, as in the traditional work of shoeing horses or repairing farm machinery. He is a real 'Jack of all trades', called upon in many and diverse situations. He deals with all sorts of iron and steel forging in the repair and construction of many articles that are made of metal for farming, forestry, and the building trade etc.
Blacksmiths create ornamental and functional objects by hot forging a wide range of metals. Artist blacksmiths work with metal to create architectural and decorative pieces and industrial blacksmiths produce items for use in industry, such as specialist tools.
