Children’s nurses tend to the needs of children up to adolescent age who are ill, injured or disabled. Most of the work is carried out in health centres, paediatric wards in general hospitals and specialised children's hospitals, but much of the work is also done in the child's home. They also advise the parents how best to look after their child without neglecting the needs of other family members, and also help the child to assist in their own treatment, especially in the case of older children. Their work often entails liaison with other health workers such as physiotherapists, psychologists and other medical specialists. The work usually involves a lot of travelling.
