A herbalist practices one of the oldest branches of medicine: more than a quarter of present-day chemotherapy is based on herbal remedies. Herbalists consult with their patients about the patient’s medical history, diet, lifestyle and mental and physical situation in order to prescribe the best treatment. They also keep a detailed record of their diagnosis and treatments. The pharmacopoeia of herbalists is currently being enlarged due to the increasing interest in herbal remedies originating in Asia, particularly China and Tibet. Herbalists usually have their own practice, but sometimes they visit their patients at home. They sometimes work in collaboration with other doctors at alternative therapy centres, sometimes more than one, so a driving license is often essential.
